West Moss-side Organic Farm and Centre nr Stirling Scotland

Jeanette Sendler

I was introduced to Jeanette through an exhibition at the Collins Gallery in Glasgow .... I was fascinated by her textual felt which reflected the natural world and a few days later visited her in her studio - I returned with two pieces. One Reflections on Peat  is 'at home' in the centre. The other graces my house and I enjoy every day. I was so pleased when she agreed to come to West Moss-side to teach. It is great to have her at West Moss-side to pass on her skills. (Kate Sankey)

Born in East Berlin, Germany in 1965, my initial training as a ladies tailor was followed by four years as a Costume Maker for the Comic Opera in Berlin.
I moved to Scotland in 1991 and worked as a Costume Assistant for Scottish Opera, English National Opera and Australian Opera amongst others. During this time I started Costume Making at Edinburgh College of Art and completed a Masters in Theatre Costume Design in 1997.
In 1998 I used felt for the first time in a  Performance Art context followed by a series of performances in collaboration with other artists.. In addition to my own practise, I regularly conduct workshops and since 2005, have bee employed as a tutor in Fibre Arts for the Centre of Continuous Studies and within the Performance Art Department, Edinburgh College of Art.
My research on felt and textiles has involved trips to Finland, Kazakhstan and Kirgisthan, China, Mongolia and most recently Japan. www.sendler.co.uk Since, I have worked with various communities on a number of projects and residential programs. Felt as a medium attracts me and allows me to express myself in my art.
