I love working with natural materials of all sorts and am fascinated by the way that different cultures use different plants and weaves for creating their own work baskets.

Kate Sankey has been at West Moss-side since 1991. She has been farming since 1998 and weaving and twiddling with natural materials for more than 10 years.
She is an environmental scientist with a passion for communication and learning. She set up an environmental education not-for-profit organisation in the New Forest before moving back to Scotland in 1985.  Since then she has run her own countryside interpretation consultancy, was the first Director of the Scottish Envirionmental Education Council, set up a part time undergraduate programme in Sustainable Development Studies  and has headed up the Division of Academic Innovation and Continuing Education at the University of Stirling. She now devotes her time to the farm and centre and has given up the University day job! She is currently on the Board of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.  She is an associate with OSA(UK) a consultancy in environmental and lifelong learning.  She is a senior honorary research fellow with Stirling University and an Associate with PASCAL - an international observatory.  She was awarded Scot of the Year by the Institute of Contemporary Scotland for her work in the Environment in 2006
Kate has lots of energy to devote to the 140 acre organic farm and the centre.  The centre was completed in 2006 and is growing year by year. It is the natural world that provides all the inspiration!
