 It is great to have Charlotte Haines tutoring here at West Moss-side.
She will be working together with Saskia Gavin in a series of three
felt workshops introducing different felting techniques. Charlotte Haines and Saskia Gavin are two felt and fibre artists from Edinburgh.(Kate Sankey)
Crafting, constructing and creating have been a passion since I was old enough to play with knitting needles and wool.
Never
one to follow the so-called right way, I wanted to experiment and
invent my own way of doing things. I can remember collecting fleece
from the hedge rows washing and carding (as I now know it to be) I made
nests, including moss, twigs and flower petals. Conkers became
jewellery and grass was woven into mats. I cut up fabric and made lots
of very odd outfits for dolls and later myself.
After
studying aspects of textiles at college, I discovered felt making and a
whole new world opened up to me. I learned with Jeanette Sendler.
I
have now been teaching felt making and running workshops for around 5
years, and continue to experiment, play, craft, and construct, create
and learn.
I
have had felt pieces in a number of exhibitions; I enjoy teaching as it
allows me to enthuse, facilitate creativity, also to watch wonderful
pieces being created.
