Inspired by the Scandinavian styles, Jon will teach you how to make
elegant yet functional Scandinavian style wooden eating spoons from
freshly cut wood such as birch, sycamore and fruit woods. |
About the tutor
|
 It is great to have Charlotte Haines tutoring here at West Moss-side. She will be working together with Saskia Gavin in a series of three felt workshops introducing different felting techniques. Charlotte Haines and Saskia Gavin are two felt and fibre artists from Edinburgh. ( Kate Sankey)

Prerequisite knowledge/skills |
No previous felting knowledge is required for this workshop just
enthusiasm and a willingness to experiment, create and play with
textures. |
Course format |
During the day participants will be introduced the felting techniques
used for making textural wall hangings. We will look at the felting
qualities of the wool from various different breeds of sheep and the
ways to incorporate different mediums into the hanging. A washing
machine will be used to do the felting!
The morning will be spent assembling the wall hanging and tacking it
into a net ready to go into a washing machine. In the afternoon we will
look at uncovering the hidden treasures felted in to the fleece, adding
more and looking at ways of hanging the piece |
After completing this course... |
You will take home a unique piece of textural felt and have an
understanding of the felting process using raw fleeces from different
breeds of sheep. You will also be able to identify different fleeces
and their different characteristics and know how to incorporate diverse
mediums into your felt. |

| What should I bring with me? |
Materials will be provided however if you have any special and precious
objects such as drift wood, pebbles, scraps of wool, knitting, textiles
or lace you want to incorporate in your hanging, then please bring it
along. If by any chance you have a fleece you were wondering what to do
with, then please bring it along too. Don't forget a notebook and
your camera. |
