Description

This 2-day workshop will introduce you to the basic techniques for making traditional willow baskets. You will make one completed basket and there will be time to practice the different elements a basket; the base, weaving techniques and the border.

About the tutor
Georgia Crook
Georgia uses wild materials found around her home to make her inventive and unusual baskets. She has had work shown in galleries and exhibitions all over the British Isles and in Europe, and has a piece of work in the permanent collection of the National Museums of Scotland...

Prerequisite knowledge/skills
This is an introduction for those who would like to learn the basic techniques of traditional basketry; no previous skills are required to come on this workshop.
Course format
Over the two days there will be sessions on the different techniques associated with each element of a basket. Georgia will demonstrate and there will be time to practice and share problems under her expert guidance.
After completing this course...
As well as having your own beautiful baskets to take home, you will know how to go about making baskets yourself. You will probably have several bases made so you can take some willow home to work on. Follow up sessions can be arranged with Kate Sankey to re-inforce your learning.

What should I bring with me?

A notebook and a camera!  All tools will be provided. But bring a pair of secateurs and a Stanley knife or similar if you have them. If you have something special you wish to weave into your basket bring it along and we will try to incorporate it.

Are there any other related courses I can attend?
This is one of a number of willow basket making courses which will be run at West Moss-side for beginners and improvers.
