During the day Kate will introduce you to the techniques of weaving, braiding and plaiting to make unusual pieces. This is the first day of this type using soft rush - I have been collecting ideas and creations over the years from a variety of crafts and materials (New Zealand flax, river rush, birch craft, straw, and willow craft) to use with fine soft rush and fine willow. |
About the tutor

Kate has been growing her skills over the past 10 years. Inspired by West Moss-side - the farming landscape, wildlife and natural materials which grow on the farm and flanders Moss National Nature Reserve. She began with willow basket making but has been so fortunate to meet and work with tutors and makers in a variety of media - all of whom have inspired her and many she has attracted to West Moss-side over the past 3 years.

Prerequisite knowledge/skills
|
No
previous knowledge is required for this workshop. You should be happy with working with delicate and intricate techniques. Good eye sight needed!! It will be lots of fun and once you have discovered the basic techniques you will be able to create your own animals and birds, stars and brooches. |
Course format
|
We shall work around some basic pieces but there will be an opportunity to create your own shapes, circles, stars and animals. There will be a set of forms available but I will show you how to make them for yourself - panel pins and wood base! You will be able to share your new found skills with famile and friends. It will be fun and there will be mince pies (veggie) and a little festive food to add to the day. |
After completing this course...

You should take home a variety of pieces - camels, reindeer, Christmas stars, angel fishes and brooches - it will be lots of fun and once you have discovered the basic
techniques you will be able to create your own animals, fishes and birds, stars
and brooches. In fact who knows where evolution will take us! You will have a collection
of presents, decorations and festive season creations |
