Course Details - Creative Basketry

This is a special opportunity to work with Georgia on a two day workshop to explore the possibilities of using a variety of willow and natural materials to create special unique baskets and pieces. Georgia is the author of the well used book Basket Making. She has developed the techniques of combining different materials into her baskets, so it is really fantastic that she has again agreed to share some of her knowledge here at West Moss-side

ABOUT THE COURSE

Title Creative Basketry with Georgia Crook
Description

Over the weekend you will create an unique basket and maybe a second piece. The workshop will concentrate on using willow and lots of other natural materials - rush, bark, larch, birch, broom, moss and all kinds of other materials.  Although based upon the application of traditional techniques you will be producing creative and experimental basketry of both sculptural and functional form.   Because you will be using materials of your choice the techneques of weaving and forms you will be able to create will vary. Georgia will demonstrate different techniques for different materials.

Prerequisite knowledge/skills
No previous skills are required to come on this workshop although some understanding of basic basket making techniques would be useful.
Course format

Georgia will demonstrate different techniques for different materials. Although based on traditional basket making techniques this will be a really special opportunity to benefit from Georgia's expertise. The weekend will be structured to ensure that you each produce a basket / creation in the time available but there will be a chance to experiment and to practice using different materials.   Georgia will provide a series of small projects to introduce you to a set of techniques - you will then be able to apply them to larger pieces with lots of help and tuition.

After completing this course...
You will have created a basket / piece which will be unique. You will also have learnt how to deal with different materials and how to extend your basic basketry skills into something which has no bounds!
