This is a day where you will make a beautiful willow platter with Pascal Carr. Elegantly simple it will be both practical and stunning made with natural willow.

Description

This one-day workshop will introduce you to the basic techniques for making traditional willow platters. You will make at least one completed platter and there will be time to practice the different elements of the platter: choosing material, shaping the rim, and the weaving and finishing techniques.

About the tutor

Pascal Carr is new to West Moss-side as a tutor in his own right.  He is partner with Catherine Davies in the new basket making business All about Willow. he has been working on larger pieces.  His work is in the traditional style of Scottish and Irish baskets.

Prerequisite knowledge/skills
This is an introduction for those who would like to learn the basic techniques of traditional basketry; no previous skills are required to come on this workshop.
Course format

During the day there will be sessions on the different techniques associated with each element of the platter. Pascal will demonstrate, and there will be time to practice and share problems under his expert guidance. Pascal will also explain the importance of choosing the material for the very best effect. 

After completing this course...
As well as having your own beautiful platters to take home, you will have all the skills to make a platter yourself. Follow up sessions can be arranged with Kate Sankey to re-inforce your learning.

What should I bring with me?

A notebook and a camera!  All tools will be provided. But bring a pair of secateurs and a Stanley knife or similar if you have them.
