Course Details - Willow Square Work

A weekend to develop your skills in traditional willow basket weaves. Jane Wilkinson will take you through the techniques of making square work. You will complete a square (not in the strict mathematical definition) shopping basket or a trug for the garden - flowers or mushroom or just to carry those things which need a flat open basket. Jane is one of Scotland's very best basket makers and I am delighted that she is coming to develop basket making skills for those of you who have started making baskets and are keen to extend your techniques. Not to be missed!

Title Willow Square Work with Jane Wilkinson

This 2-day workshop will introduce you to the basic techniques for making traditional willow square -work baskets. You will make one shopper with a handle or a trug and there will be time to practice the different elements a the basket - especially the square work , weaves, border and handle.

About the tutor

It was Jane Wilkinson who introduced me to the wonderful world of willow weaving. I attended a weekend workshop and produced two fantastic baskets (well I thought they were!) - and that was it. She shared her skills and experiences both of willow basketry but also growing and cultivating willow and I was hooked.

This is an introduction to square work. It is best suited to those who have made a round basket and so have a little knowledge of working with willow.
